Located on the 2nd floor of the National Art Center Tokyo, Salon de Thé Rond is a unique café built into the museum’s iconic circular atrium. Guests can enjoy cakes, sandwiches, and tea in an architectural space that feels like part of the museum’s artwork itself.

The café became widely known after appearing in Makoto Shinkai’s 2016 anime film “Your Name (Kimi no Na wa.)”, where Taki and his senior Okudera go on a date. Today, it’s recognized as a pilgrimage café for anime fans and a must-visit spot for tourists exploring Roppongi and Nogizaka.

In this guide, you’ll find basic information, access details, menu reviews, crowd tips, and whether you can use the café without a museum ticket.

What is Salon de Thé Rond?

Salon de Thé Rond is set inside the National Art Center Tokyo’s futuristic glass-and-concrete building, designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa. Its circular, open-air structure has become one of the museum’s most recognizable features.

The café rose to fame thanks to its appearance in “Your Name.” Fans instantly recognize the round atrium from the film, and many visit to recreate the same scene and enjoy a meal while looking out over the museum.

Good news: you don’t need an exhibition ticket to enter the café. Admission to the museum building itself is free, and only the exhibition halls require tickets. This makes Salon de Thé Rond a popular destination not just for museum visitors, but also for couples, anime fans, and café-goers in Roppongi.

My Visit & Food Review

I visited on a weekday at 2:00 PM and was able to get a seat right away, although the café was already lively. By the time I left around 3:00 PM, a small line had formed.

🥪 The “Your Name” Sandwich Set (C Set)

Since Taki and Okudera ordered the C Set in the movie, I chose the same.

  • Choice of Sandwich: Ham or Salmon
  • Choice of Drink: Coffee or Tea

I went with the Salmon Sandwich, which combined salmon, tuna, onions, and cream cheese. The balance of flavors—savory, creamy, and slightly tangy—worked beautifully with the sweet notes of the bread.

🥪 Ham Sandwich (separate visit)

On another day, I tried the ham sandwich. The whole wheat bread was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, while ham, cheese, and lettuce made for a fresh yet filling meal. More than just a snack, it’s enough for lunch.

🍰 Cake of the Day

That day’s dessert was Banana Cream & Strawberry Cake. The sweet-and-sour contrast paired perfectly with my cup of tea.

☕ Drink & Soup

The tea had a rich aroma, and the chilled corn soup was sweet and refreshing, complementing the sandwiches perfectly.

Can You Use the Café Without a Museum Ticket?

Yes! You can enter the National Art Center building freely without a ticket. Only exhibition rooms require admission. Many visitors stop by just for the café, making it a convenient option even if you’re not seeing an exhibition.

Price & Value

With sets priced from ¥1,540–¥2,420, it’s slightly higher than an average Tokyo café. However, considering the unique architecture, the anime connection, and the museum setting, it’s well worth it.

Perfect for tourists, couples, and anime fans on a pilgrimage.
