If you’re searching for one of Tokyo’s newest dessert destinations, FRECKLE donuts + belly button GELATO in Jiyugaoka deserves a spot on your itinerary.

Opened on July 17, 2026, this charming café combines fluffy Japanese-style French crullers with artisan gelato made from premium ingredients sourced from Nagano Prefecture.

Whether you’re exploring Tokyo’s café culture or looking for Instagram-worthy sweets, this newly opened shop is well worth a visit.

What is FRECKLE Donuts?

FRECKLE Donuts is a Japanese specialty shop famous for its handmade French crullers.

Originally popular in Yoyogi Park, the brand opened its newest location inside JIYUGAOKA de aone, just a short walk from Jiyugaoka Station.

This location also marks the debut of belly button GELATO, a new gelato brand featuring seasonal fruits and dairy products from Nagano.

Unlike ordinary donut shops, you can enjoy freshly made French crullers together with premium gelato in a stylish café setting.

If you’re planning a food tour around Tokyo, this is one of the city’s newest hidden gems.

Crowd Levels & Waiting Time

I visited on a Sunday at around 1:45 PM.

Despite being one of Tokyo’s newest dessert shops, I was lucky enough to order immediately without waiting.

There were also several empty seats available for dine-in.

As the shop becomes more popular on social media, longer queues—especially on weekends and holidays—are likely.

If you’d like a quieter experience, weekday mornings or late afternoons are probably your best bet.

Orders can be placed either by filling out an order sheet or directly at the counter.

Inside the Café

The interior features soft pastel colors, giving the café a warm and relaxing atmosphere.

Rather than feeling like a typical donut shop, it feels more like a stylish gelato café.

Although seating is limited, the space is comfortable enough to enjoy your desserts at a leisurely pace.

During my visit, I saw couples, solo visitors, and groups of friends enjoying the café.

Gelato Review

I ordered two Duo Gelatos, allowing me to try four different flavors.

Peach & Candy Caramel Brûlée

Peach

This was easily my favorite flavor.

The sweetness and aroma of perfectly ripe peaches burst with every bite, tasting almost like eating fresh fruit straight from the orchard.

Since it’s a seasonal flavor, don’t miss it if it’s available.

Candy Caramel Brûlée

If you love crème brûlée or pudding, you’ll probably love this.

Rich custard notes blend beautifully with the deep caramel flavor, creating an incredibly satisfying dessert.

Marbled Rhubarb & Apple Rosemary

Marbled Rhubarb

This flavor reminded me of strawberries mixed with yogurt.

It has a pleasant balance of sweetness, acidity, and creamy richness, making it especially refreshing during summer.

Apple & Rosemary

This combination is a little more sophisticated.

The tart apple flavor is complemented by the fragrant rosemary, creating a refreshing yet elegant taste.

The buttery cookie served with the gelato was another highlight and paired perfectly with every scoop.

French Cruller Review

Of course, I couldn’t leave without trying their signature French crullers.

Sugar & Salt (Shio Freckle)

The dough is incredibly soft and airy.

It starts with a gentle sweetness reminiscent of honey before finishing with a subtle hint of sea salt.

The balance between sweet and salty is exceptional, making this my favorite donut.

Custard Fresh

This donut is generously filled with rich custard cream.

Every bite is packed with smooth, creamy filling that almost overflows.

If you have a sweet tooth, this is definitely the one to order.

Iced Coffee

I also ordered an iced coffee to enjoy alongside the donuts.

Its clean, refreshing taste balanced the sweetness of both the donuts and gelato perfectly.

The drink was served in a cute original cup decorated with the shop’s character sticker, making it just as photogenic as the desserts themselves.

If you’re planning to relax inside the café, ordering a coffee with your sweets is highly recommended.
